Maarsen Legal provides legal services to both private individuals and businesses. Mr. Drs. Esther Maarsen-Neumann has been a lawyer since 2005 and has consistently practiced in an international context. Over the years, her work in cross-border dispute resolution within the fields of (international) inheritance law, corporate law, and contract law, combined with procedural law, has led to a deepened specialization.

About me
Providing reliable, ethical, and dedicated legal services is second nature to me. Every legal matter has multiple dimensions, and I believe it is essential to consider not only the legal aspects, but also the personal and practical interests of my clients. Your trust is my commitment. I provide clear and honest advice in plain language, so that together we can determine the right strategy. I am closely involved with my clients and work proactively to achieve sustainable solutions. Wherever possible, I strive to resolve disputes amicably — strategic negotiation often yields greater benefits than litigation. When going to court is unavoidable, I apply all my knowledge and experience to achieve the best possible outcome for my clients. This includes conducting negotiations, legal proceedings, and, when necessary, securing recovery options through measures such as attachments. I grew up in northern Germany (Hamburg) and obtained my law degree from Leiden University in the Netherlands. In addition to Dutch law, I specialized in international law with an emphasis on economic relations. Thanks to my background, I provide fully bilingual legal advice in both German and Dutch, without any language barriers. My understanding of both Dutch and German law allows me to immediately identify relevant differences and potential pitfalls for clients. I also advise clients fluently in English.
Practice area's
Maarsen Legal provides legal advice and litigation services exclusively under Dutch law. Thanks to her background, mr. drs. Maarsen-Neumann advises clients fluently in both German and Dutch. The differences between the two legal systems often prove to be subtle yet significant pitfalls in practice. With her thorough knowledge of both Dutch and German law, she effectively guides clients in cross-border matters, helping them to avoid misunderstandings and legal risks. Clients are, of course, also advised seamlessly in English. mr. drs. Maarsen-Neumann is registered in the Register of Legal Practice Areas of the Netherlands Bar Association (Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten) for the following areas of law: inheritance law, corporate law, tenancy law, and procedural law. Based on this registration, she is required to obtain ten training credits (PE-points) each calendar year for every registered area of law, in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar Association.

Maarsen-Neumann is able to provide extensive, cross-disciplinary advice and resolve complex issues effectively — including in an international context. Where necessary, she refers clients within her network to ensure that every legal matter receives the required support. She also works closely with notaries and tax advisors, enabling her to incorporate fiscal and notarial aspects seamlessly into her advice, proceedings, and dispute resolution.

Fees
Maarsen Legal is a law firm with minimal overhead, which keeps costs manageable and ensures transparency regarding the financial aspects of your case. If litigation becomes necessary, we provide a realistic and fair estimate of the expected costs and likely course of the proceedings, without raising unrealistic expectations. Any additional costs are limited to actual third-party expenses, such as court fees, bailiff charges, extracts, or the involvement of external experts. Office administration costs are not charged separately, so you can avoid any unexpected fees. In certain situations, it is possible to arrange fixed-price agreements or retain services through a subscription, allowing you to plan and budget effectively. Maarsen Legal does not operate on the basis of publicly funded legal aid, but is fully committed to providing efficient, transparent, and expert support at all times.

Maarsen Legal does not maintain a client funds account. As a result, third parties, including bailiffs, must pay funds intended for clients directly to the clients and not through the firm. If, unexpectedly, funds are received into Maarsen Legal’s bank account, the firm will ensure that these funds are transferred as soon as possible to the rightful recipient for whom they were intended.
